Adam Thao

Harding High School, 2014

University of Minnesota – Twin Cities, Business and Marketing Education and Human Resource Development, 2018

Adam is a recent graduate of the University of Minnesota. Growing up in a single parent home, Adam was not sure if he wanted to go to college, feared that he couldn’t afford it, and he worried about fitting in. With the support of Wallin Education Partners and his Wallin EP advisor, Adam gained confidence and a positive self-image.

“Being from a lower income family, it is hard to find someone to help you through academic struggles as well as the daily struggles of college, so having my Wallin EP advisor there from freshman year on providing guidance meant the world to me.”

One of Adam’s greatest interests is technology and IT. This passion lead him to become the founder and president of University League of Legends, a sponsored eSports student group with 350 members. Adam also serves as a mentor in his community to encourage academic motivation and provide career awareness to high school students.

“The financial piece of the Wallin EP program is very helpful. I’m able to work part time and focus more on school, student organizations and volunteering. I feel like I have more time to give back to low income students from my community and this pushes me to want to do more in the future.”

Upon graduation, Adam is excited to start his job at Xcel Energy as a Project Management Analyst. In his free time, he plans to expand the eSports community throughout Minnesota and continue to give back to his community through mentorship.

Congratulations to Adam, and all of our 2018 Wallin Education Partners Scholars on their graduation!
